There are several cases of people who have loose skin and fat deposits on their arms. The most appropriate surgery for these cases is brachioplasty. The operation improves the contour of the upper surface of the upper limbs and at the same time increases the self-confidence of the person with this aesthetic problem. An impressively large number of patients who have lost a lot of body weight are preoccupied with the relaxation of their hands and seek brachytoplasty as the first cosmetic reconstruction operation of their body. And this more than the fact of the inability to hide the problem under the clothes, especially in the summer months with the short-sleeved T-shirts.
Candidates for brachioplasty
Patients who are indicated for surgery are people with loose skin on the arms who are ashamed to wear T-shirts with short sleeves. Loose skin can be the result of normal aging or heavy weight loss. In addition to sagging skin and accumulating fat, there is often fat accumulation near the shoulder and a little near the elbow. The final operation is a combination of liposuction and surgical resection. Patients undergoing liposuction may need other operations on their body (such as thigh, buttocks, abdominoplasty).
Surgical technique
During the patient's visit to discuss the operation, the patient expresses the desire to limit the scar around the axillary groove, thus hiding the final scar of the operation. It is a fact, however, that only a small piece of skin can be removed this way. Thus almost all patients wishing to have the operation have loose skin and excess fat, extending to the elbow and the only effective surgical technique through an elongated incision in the inner part of the arm. Excess fat is treated in combination with liposuction.
After brachioplasty
Dr. Antoniadis will inform you in detail about the duration of recovery, so that the wound healing process is as short as possible and favorable for the final aesthetic result. The instructions include holding the hands in a high position on pillows for the first days, as well as restricting the movements for the first week. Unlike the abdomen scar, the arm scar is not located in an ideal anatomical area and tends to remain red for a long time (even for 6-12 months). However, after this period, the scar matures satisfactorily. Sometimes the scar can harden and become annoying. In this case an operation to correct the scar is necessary. The final result should be re-checked after a period of one and two years, mainly due to the continuous process of aging and tissue relaxation.
