Many women have a disproportionately large breast, which causes neck and back pain as well as skin irritations. In addition, women with large breasts feel embarrassed and uncomfortable when choosing clothes and bras. Breast reduction, also known as shrinkage surgery, can offer all women a better quality of life.

Candidates for breast reduction

It usually affects women who have completed childbearing and have completed all the necessary tests to rule out malignant damage to their breasts. Smoking is a contraindication to surgery, because it significantly affects the perspiration of the nipple and can lead to its necrosis.

Surgical technique

The surgical technique is based on the removal of excess adenolipid tissue and the repositioning of the nipple in the central part of the breast, with the simultaneous erection of the breast.

The techniques described are numerous and include the classic inverted T (or anchor method), as well as the newer vertical scar that avoids the large horizontal scar on the lower part of the breast. During the information visit, Dr. Antoniadis will describe in detail the whole process of individualized surgery, in order to achieve the best possible result.

The duration of the operation varies between three and four hours and depends on the total size of the breasts.

After the operation, the breast is wrapped and the patient goes home the next day.

After surgery

The patient is re-examined on the tenth day after surgery. During this time he should wear a special bra on a 24-hour basis for a total of two weeks and then for a further four weeks during the day.

The period of absence from work after the operation varies between two and three weeks. Physical activity can be resumed immediately after surgery, however driving after two weeks is recommended and more intense exercise is encouraged after six weeks. Patients are extremely satisfied with the outcome of the surgery and when the recovery period has elapsed they can enjoy a better life with less weight on their chest. In fact, the most common comment after breast reduction surgery is "Why did I wait so long to have surgery - I should have done it many years ago."
