Otoplasty

The emotional burden of people with deaf ears, more commonly called "thrown ears", can be alleviated with otoplasty. It is an operation based on the sculpting of the cartilaginous part of the ear and requires about 10-14 days for recovery.

Suitable patients for otoplasty

Ear canal surgery is most often performed on young children after the age of five, before starting primary school. This also ensures the avoidance of teasing by classmates, which particularly burdens young children. This surgery is very popular with both sexes. The operation also affects people who have suffered mechanical trauma in the area of their ears.

Surgical technique

The operation lasts one to two hours and in adults is usually performed under local anesthesia, while in young children, general anesthesia is most often used. The operation begins with incisions that are hidden in the normal folds of skin behind each ear. Through these incisions, the cartilage is shaped and the ears are finally repositioned in their most normal position.

After the convergence of the incisions, bandages are placed more circularly and the time of the operation is completed.

After otoplasty

Patients must constantly wear an elastic band, which keeps their ears in a stable position. When the bandages are removed the ears are swollen and have changed their color, however this condition is temporary and these symptoms subside after about ten days. What is important is to hold the ears with an elastic bandage firmly and mainly overnight for about two weeks after removing the bandages. The satisfaction of the patients after the operation is very high and they seek to show their new appearance to friends and acquaintances.
